Tiny Treasures: Books and Blogs

I love reading and learning about new ideas or concepts. Maybe it has something to do with my life path number 5however that is an entirely different blog post.

Today on my youtube channel I shared a few of my Tiny Treasures, which is my idea of monthly favorites.

In this post I’m sharing a little more of my favorite books and blogs that I find myself revisiting. The first is a book that I read back in late 2012, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I learned so much from this former professor at Carnegie Mellon and was oddly amazed about how I could relate to a middle aged white man.

Overall the book is about life lessons he’d learned and his amazing ability to see the simplicity and beauty of life in his final days but ultimately I found it be a love story. My…

Don’t Censor Your Dreams

What are your dreams?

Take a moment to write them down on paper and then place the paper in a location where you can see it everyday. Force yourself to look at it at least once a day. Try doing one thing that could get you a step closer to achieving that dream. It could be something simple such as taking a class to learn more about your dream or going to the library and researching more about it (the free way).

I figured it might be good for me to write out my dreams and put them on a place where I will see them everyday and others can hold me accountable (or inspire me) to take action and so I will put my list of dreams on the internet. What better place right?

Wow, I’m a little nervous….All right here goes nothing.

My dreams (goals) are to:

How to Meditate: Show up. Sit. Breathe. Repeat.

Take a moment to sit still. Plant your feet on the floor. Place your hands on your lap. Take a deep breath in and mentally count to five…now release your breath, slowly.

Congrats! You’ve just completed a brief meditation sequence.

Now repeat as many times as you like.

In the video below, I share with you some tips and tricks that I’ve learned since starting my meditation journey. I started and stopped many times because I was under the impression that you had to do it a certain way. I wanted to be perfect. I then realized that chasing perfection was doing more harm than good. I’m human, not a Demigod or magical being. All I can do is “show up” and do my best, that’s all God wants.

Please leave me a comment below and let me know if this helped you in any way. Also share this with a friend and let me know  if you try meditating. Remember meditating is mainly focusing on your breath and being present.

Show up. Sit. Breathe. Repeat.

Hold My Salvation, Please

This morning during my morning pages, I found myself, as I often do, writing the lyrics of the song that is playing in the background while I write.

Alexi Murdoch’s Orange Sky: “I had a dream I stood beneath an orange sky. With my sister standing by. Here is what I know now sister. In your eyes my salvation lies.”

Really?! Why isn’t my salvation within myself?

By the way, thank you morning pages because it gave me the inspiration to write this post.

A sister or any loved one for that matter cannot be responsible for how your life turns out. Yes they love us and want the best for our well-being but we cannot delegate our salvation to them.

We cannot be like: “Okay here ya go (insert love one here), hold on to my salvation or happiness or joy, etc. and I’ll grab it when I need it but if you lose it, it’s all your fault and you are the reason I’m unhappy!”

We mustn’t look for our worth in others. God lives within each and every one of us. Once we tap into that power from within (via praying and meditating), I believe that is when we will see the true and authentic change in our lives.

I hope this message reaches you in good spirits. Remember to live freely and be fearless.

Pastaveia

Pain is not your purpose.

Please don’t wear your overworked schedule as a badge of honor.

Society would have us to believe that we must “cease” every opportunity that’s presented to us.

To be honest, sometimes we need to say, No.  And mean it!

We don’t have to attend every engagement we are invited to attend.

It’s okay to stay in for the weekend and have some much needed me-time and recharge your batteries.

You can’t continually give your energy to others and environments that don’t feed you in return.

Now please don’t mistake what I’m saying. I’m not saying that you have to “get” something from anyone or anything. I’m saying that you need to carefully select where and with whom you spend your time.

If you have tiny humans, you’ll have to get a little creative. As parent, maybe while your little one is taking a nap, you should do something for you (NOT CLEAN THE HOUSE) at least for 10 minutes. You could sit and enjoy the silence (mediate or a few dragon breaths) or enjoy a cup of your favorite drink.

Whatever it may be, enjoy a few minutes of time to yourself before you take on the TO-DO list.

Remember we are here to love and live joyfully.

I hope this reaches you in good spirits.

Thank you for reading.

Be Bold- Be Different- Be Fearless-

It’s a concept I’ve mentioned more than once on this platform and with the New Year approaching, it’s the perfect time to re-evaluate the previous year.

During this past year, my husband and I have been letting go of things in our life that don’t add value, such as excess wardrobe items, unused kitchen gadgets, car parts that were taking up space in the garage, and even furniture (currently we have a couchless home), all of which no longer match our needs or lifestyle and also a few relationships with several Negative-Nancy-type people.

Overall it’s been very liberating and has made us more conscious of what, where and whom we surround ourselves with.

Time is such a precious gift.

Why waste time doing something you don’t enjoy or with people you can’t stand.

Unfortunately losing my grandmother this year has made this concept clearer than ever before.

As a result, I left my old position at work and found a new one. One where the people are team-oriented and eager to see you succeed instead of playing mind games or pulling rank.

When you find yourself in a situation like that and you know that you’ve done all you can do…the next best thing is to change your environment. We cannot change other people. We cannot control other people. However you do have the power to make a change for you.

People who don’t add value to your life will only suck the good from you (my experience) and dump their negativity on your lap; misery loves company.

And, you know what?

I’d rather be alone in a quiet place with a good book rather than being surrounded by people who are heating up the room with all the hot air they are releasing from their mouths.

In the coming year, you can choose to let go of a few people, places or things that don’t add value to your life and use this fresh start to embrace the future boldly, differently and fearlessly.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Happy Birthday to Sesame Street!!

Today Sesame Street turns 45 years old!

I grew up watching the show and am pleased to see how it’s evolved over the years. Yes there have been a few controversial topics on the show but we must learn not to look at in a negative light. The show has helped to get the conversation started and at the end of the day, that is what matters.

To read more about the evolution of the show click here.

As always, thank you for reading and have an awesome week! Don’t forget to check out the giveaway here.
